How to Manage Your Emotional Triggers

Healing begins inside of the wound.

Healing begins inside of the wound. Triggers. Love and hate ‘em at the same time, right? A trigger is a heightened emotional response that’s incongruent with the present circumstances.

This happens because the situation poked a wound, an unmet need, or a past pain and we responded from that hurt place. Being triggered is uncomfortable, but I know it’s valuable to embrace the discomfort and use the trigger as an opportunity to develop greater self-awareness and therefore, heal what we’ve been carrying.

Triggers aren’t bad. They’re informational and instructional. In this video, I talk about how emotional triggers manifest and feel, offer advice on how to return to your center in the moment, and give suggestions on how to recover from triggers quickly.

I think a very good indication of how close someone is to healing depends on how easily one can confront and speak about the very things that used to silence or alarm them. If our wounds still negatively impact our days, then our work isn’t done. And this is the invitation triggers offer us, to go within and continue pursuing our joy.

It’s a gift when we’re triggered because now we have a very clear sense of where our woundedness resides. And once we’re aware, we can heal.

Check out the short video here, so you can learn to accept the medicine your triggers offer.

With love,

Selima
