We used to drink soda. Sprite was the jam. I can’t remember the last time I had soda, it’s been at least 10 years. Funny thing is that I don’t remember weaning off of it or missing it. I became aware of how bad it was for my body and realized it was likely contributing to some the digestive issues I was experiencing. When Tami and I overhauled our diets, it a no-brainer to cut soda out.
But it’s not always easy to remove something, be it a food from our diets, a person in our lives, or a habit. We need something to fill that space and emptiness.
I would not at all say I felt empty after I stopped drinking soda. But I will say that once I started drinking daily herbal infusions, my desires for less healthful foods and drinks decreased drastically.
We can get addicted to feeling good, not in an adrenaline-high kind of way, but in the way where you feel as good as you know you are supposed to feel and you want to keep feeling better.
When you take something off your plate or out of your life, be deliberate about what you fill that space with. Choose to fill it with something more joyful, more aligned, more nourishing, more loving.
Because when you aren’t mindful and intentional about what you fill that space with, you will more likely fall back into your old habit and repeat the pattern you were trying to break.
